Week 1 of Blocked Rainbow Quilt Along

They were making me dizzy when spread randomly across the table, so I've lined 'em up to behave.
But RED !!

Somehow I made 20 instead of the 18 needed pinwheels for the first week of the Blocked Rainbow Quilt Along currently being hosted by Little Bunny Quilts

If you want to see a gallery of progress, try these hashtags:  #BlockedRainbowQAL ,  #hbd patterns ,
and @honeybunnyanddoll on Instagram and the Facebook group Honey, Bunny, and Doll Quilts .

Notice in my photo you can actually see only two actual places where the points meet.  LOL.  Of course they are the two best blocks.  Full disclosure here.

More full disclosure:  These are totally NOT the fabrics I posted about in my fabric pull post.  I went with solids to add to the modern vibe.

Even more disclosure:  I'm not happy with the solid white because it leans to winter white and I feel like it looks din-jee/dingy/dingey with the bright red.  But I really don't want to re-sew these.  And that's the only solid white I have enough of.  And I don't want to do any scrappy or other-color background.

Do YOU think it looks dingy?  Be honest, before I sew up next week's blocks!

Easy Pillow Cases for My Daughters

These cute arrow and fox fabrics were picked up as flannel remnants at Joann's a couple months back.  They're just the style for my dd18 and dd14 to lounge about on. (That's ending a sentence with TWO prepositions.)

I followed the easy tutorial found here at Film in the Fridge. The post is from 2010, and it's an Oldy but a Goody, imo.

There's the crisp upgrade-from-plain there in the little gray solid trim, i.e. faux piping, which I see on name-brand sheet sets, so I'm feelin' snazzy.

And for laundry durability she gives fully encased French Seam instructions to chase those flannel frays away.

As if all that isn't enough, the instructions are easy enough for me to grasp and execute.  Who could ask for more?

I think my little pinny chick enjoys watching all the pins get stuck into the foxes.

I hope everyone had/is having/will have a very blessed Easter or Passover time, with much family and fabric abounding.

Jumping into the Blocked Rainbow QAL today!

So if I don't get a move on today I'll be behind before I get started, lol.  The first block comes out in two days and there's a tiny bit of prep work and posting to be done.

Here's a link to all the details from Alison at Little Bunny Quilts. And here's her photo of where we're heading ...

Isn't that gorgeous?!  The pattern is FREE from Alison's Craftsy shop (download info at previous link).

This is a springtime weekly project, and playing with such brightness will help me get over the winter which really dragged out this year, imo.

I shopped from my stash (in order to defray cost of my new cell phone, ack) and came up with these choices.  I'm going to do a controlled scrappy version and clear out some half-yards and fat quarters I've been hoarding too long.

I

At Alison's info page she links to her Facebook group to post our progress, chat, cheer, and ask questions.  And you know this is going to be in your Instagram feed so ... don't miss out!  (Playing on your FOMO, lol).  I really think making multiples of the same basic blocks will be a cinch and go quickly.  There are no excuses now.

The hashtags to play along are #BlockedRainbowQAL and #hbdpatterns .

My blogging consistently leaves soooo much to be desired.  I'm putting myself out there saying I'll not only keep up with the QAL, but I'll take pics (with that new phone) and brag  post all over social media to boot.  Unbelievable.  Wish me luck!

Yard Square Quilts for Guild Auction

The Delectable Mountains Quilt Guild of Berkley, West Virginia, auctions quilts each May for a different community charity.

I'm honored to do my little part this year by contributing two wall hangings.  The first is called "Starlight" which is a Connecting Threads kit designed by Ann Johnson.  If it should grab you by the heart -- or eye? -- you'll need to grab it back soon, because the kits are on clearance for under $20.00 🙂 .

The following bright fabric idea I shamelessly lifted from some photographs recently floating around the interwebs. I failed to note exactly where, but do remember that one photo was from an art quilter's blog, and the other was a Facebook comment ... somewhere.

BUT I did save a photo to my pc.  I wish I knew where to link it instead so that you could visit the designer's website.   Here's an/the original:

And my interpretation in 36 square inches and the worst daylight possible:

If you know where to properly credit my teal version, please leave a comment.  The blocks finish at five inches, if I recall correctly.  I really should write things down!

I'm planning to crash the linky parties of:

Confessions of a Fabric Addict
Cheeky Cognoscenti
Crazy Mom Quilts
Busy Hands Quilts

Sew Can She
Love Laugh Quilt

Kathy's Quilts

Thank you VERY much for reading my sporadic blog  😊 .

Design Wall & Honest Craft Room

So this scrappy Prairie Quilt Militia mystery design needs basting and quilting; it's from around 2015. Does END of January 2018 count as delivered for winter?  I mean technically ...   But ds16 knows mom moves s l  o   w   l    y     .

Honest craft room?  Just that!  Of course I did try to snap pics on a better than average day.  It's not supposed to be an intervention (yet).  Terrible lighting needs to be addressed though. Maybe in 2018?  But I have a large frame to remove from the studio first.  Also going to need a new large mat very soon.

Linking up today with Judy Hansen's Design Wall Monday party at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.  Also with Monday Making at Love Laugh Quilt.

Thanks for viewing my blog.

Happy New Year of 2018 to everyone!   Let there be peace on earth!
